About SGPA and CGPA

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): SGPA is the average of grade points obtained in all the subjects in a semester.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): CGPA is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the semesters completed by a student.

Importance: CGPA provides a comprehensive overview of a student's academic performance across multiple semesters, making it a valuable metric for academic evaluation and career opportunities.

The SGPA to CGPA Converter is a practical and student-friendly tool that calculates your Cumulative Grade Point Average from the Semester Grade Point Averages you have earned across multiple semesters. Instead of manually applying formulas and worrying about whether you are getting the math right, you simply enter your SGPA values, choose your calculation method, and get your CGPA along with its equivalent percentage in seconds.

What makes this tool particularly useful is that it accounts for the way different institutions handle credit weightage. If all your semesters carry equal credits, you can use the Simple Average method. If your semesters had different credit loads, the Weighted Average method factors that in to give you a result that genuinely reflects your academic standing. Both modes are available in one place, making the converter flexible enough to work for most students regardless of how their university structures its grading system.

How to Use the SGPA to CGPA Converter Online

The converter is designed to be easy to work with, even when you have several semesters to enter. Here is how to get your result:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Choose your calculation method using the radio buttons at the top. Select Simple Average if all your semesters carried equal credits, or Weighted Average if the credit load varied from semester to semester. The Simple Average option is selected by default.
  • The converter starts you off with two semester rows. Click “Add Semester” to include as many additional semesters as you need. Each new row appears with a fade-in animation, and you can remove any extra semester using the X button, though a minimum of two rows are always kept.
  • Enter your SGPA for each semester in the respective input fields. Values between 0 and 10 are accepted, and decimals are fully supported so you can enter your exact score as it appears on your grade card.
  • If you selected the Weighted Average method, an additional credits field will appear for each semester. Enter the number of credits for that semester, for example 20 or 18, so the calculation can properly account for the difference in workload.
  • Click “Calculate CGPA” and your results will appear in a result card showing your CGPA rounded to two decimal places and the equivalent percentage calculated using the standard formula of CGPA × 9.5. For example, SGPAs of 8.75 and 9.00 with equal credits give you a CGPA of 8.88 and a percentage of 84.31%.

Why Use the SGPA to CGPA Converter Online?

  • Two Calculation Methods in One Tool: The converter supports both Simple Average for semesters with equal credits and Weighted Average for semesters with varying credit loads, covering the two most common scenarios students encounter without requiring separate tools for each.
  • Handles Any Number of Semesters: You are not limited to a fixed number of entries. Add as many semester rows as your academic record requires, remove the ones you do not need, and the numbering updates automatically to keep everything organized.
  • Percentage Conversion Included: Alongside your CGPA, the tool also displays the equivalent percentage using the standard CGPA × 9.5 conversion, so you have both figures ready without needing to run a separate calculation.
  • Transparent Formula Display: The tool clearly shows the formula being applied — whether it is the simple sum divided by semesters or the weighted sum divided by total credits — so you understand exactly how your CGPA is being calculated rather than just trusting a black-box result.
  • Ideal for Students at Every Stage: Whether you are checking your CGPA mid-degree to see where you stand, preparing documents for a postgraduate application, updating your resume, or planning which upcoming semesters need stronger performance, this converter gives you the numbers you need quickly and reliably.
  • Free and Accessible: No registration required, no fees, and it works on any device, so you can use it on your phone, tablet, or computer whenever you need a quick and accurate conversion.
